Coloquio Latinoamericano de Fenomenología

Puebla, 1 - 4 October 2019

The 8th Latin-American Colloquium of Phenomenology will take place
during the 11 th International Colloquium of Phenomenology and
Hermeneutics, at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the
Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, México. Since we are
celebrating the 20 th anniversary of the Latin American Circle of
Phenomenology (CLAFEN, 1999-2019), we are also commemorating
the 100 th anniversary of the encounter between Husserl and
Heidegger, and the subsequent development of phenomenology,
hermeneutics and ontology –both world-wide, and especially in the
Iberian-American countries.
At the beginning of 1919, Martin Heidegger became Husserl’s assistant
professor of the Philosophy Seminar I at the University of Freiburg. The
young philosopher’s lectures at the beginning of the same year (“The
idea of philosophy and the world view problem”) marked the
beginning of a debate regarding the general sense of phenomenology
and its principles, which determined the further development of this
tradition. This dispute was crucial for the direction undertaken by
French phenomenology and its later flourishment, and was equally
vital for the Spanish and most Latin American countries’ reception and
development of phenomenology.
The Organizing Committee hopes this Colloquium will be the occasion
to reopen the dialogue regarding this encounter and its consequences
for the development of phenomenology’s different developments,
which can be traced via its most relevant figures. Additionally, this
event is meant to foster the discussion and meditation regarding
phenomenology’s past and future development, in any of its forms,
both in Iberian and Latin American countries.
