(2018) The affirmations of reason, Basingstoke, Palgrave Macmillan.
After pointing to a common theme in the early reviews of Barth's two commentaries on Paul's Romans, I provide a rough outline of some of the seminal aspects of German Idealism, focusing especially on the issue of self-consciousness and freedom. It is essentially a chapter on the philosophy of Immanuel Kant, and it follows the overall argument of the three Critiques.
