The journal Études Phénoménologiques – Phenomenological Studies is seeking submissions in English and French for its seventh issue on the topic
“The Many Faces of Alterity: Around the Work of Emmanuel Levinas”
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
Historical or comparative studies, such as
- The ontological, epistemological, and ethical status of intersubjectivity (Husserl, Heidegger, Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, Levinas, Ricoeur, Schutz, Arendt)
- The place of empathy, love, friendship, solicitude in phenomenology (Scheler, Husserl, Derrida, Marion)
- The being-at-home and its other
- The forms of transcendence (Levinas, Husserl, Heidegger)
- The other of phenomenology: its limitations
Phenomenological treatment of different aspects of alterity, such as
- Religious and cultural identities
- Moral, social, and political differences
- The politics of identity and their consequences
- The resurgence of nationalisms and their redefinition of the other
- Being-with the animal other
- The otherness of the divine
