Cannibal architecture hates bananas

post-communist rebranding of historical sites

Florin Mureşanu, Monica Mureşanu

pp. 229-245

This paper analyses the urban phenomenon of the new infill buildings arising in key urban locations such as historic areas, the vicinity of established landmarks or purely out of regulation bending on protected sites. This is facing the associated critique coming from the revived public opinion and local communities with support from urban conservationist organizations and even sections of the media, oriented towards public awareness. In a post-Communistic environment, due to several decades of obstructed urban evolution, the process is confronted with a fundamental crisis such as the transition to democracy and capitalism.
