Als Rationalismus bezeichnet man eine philosophische Strömung, die im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert die kontinentaleuropäische Philosophie maßgeblich bestimmte. Dem Rationalismus wird gewöhnlich der Empirismus entgegengesetzt (zum Empirismus s. Kap. 4).
