Most philosophical interest in artificial intelligence arises in the areas of philosophy of mind and philosophy of psychology. The idea is that artificial intelligence is an attempt at an existence proof for the computational theory of mind. If one can write a computer program that has the input-output behavior of a being generally agreed to have a mind (e.g. a human), then we have evidence that cognition is somehow nothing more than computation.
