How can we apply traditional Confucian values to the creative reconstruction of the relationship between human beings and nature in a rapidly globalizing world? Many people have pointed to the Confucian aspiration embedded in the ancient Chinese dictum that recognizes "the harmonious unity between nature and humanity" 天人合一 (tianren heyi) as a potentially significant contribution to modern environmental philosophy.
