(1975) The study of time II, Dordrecht, Springer.
In this paper I will deal with Hegel's account of time, its relation to the dialectic and with his views on history. I will do this by examining some of Hegel's basic texts on time and the various interpretations which have been given to them. I will also note that Hegel's account has some affinities with the analysis of time-consciousness of such existentialists as Heidegger and Kierkegaard. Finally, I will touch upon the impact on Marx's thought of Hegel's ideas on history and temporality. Although Marx did not put forward a theory of time he emphasised, like Hegel, the role of process and change in historical and social development.
