Semiotics in Switzerland

As a small multilingual country Switzerland stands at the intersection of various semiotic trends and fields. Consequently, its own interests in semiotics partly reflect the cultural influences of the surrounding countries. It is precisely because of this linguistic situation, however, that the Swiss have always been aware of the reality of language, and on this matter Ferdinand de Saussure is their most famous representative.
