Philosophy and knowledge

Carlo Cellucci

pp. 313-328

This chapter examines the relation of philosophy to knowledge. Such relation has been a fairly critical one since the Scientific Revolution of the seventeenth century, because science has invaded several areas which were traditionally part of philosophy, thus making the latter problematic and in need of legitimation. In fact, a great deal of philosophy since the Scientific Revolution has consisted in attempts to legitimize philosophy in the face of science.
