The problem of presuppositions has received much attention from both logicians and linguists. From the standpoint of the logician who is concerned solely with the truth value of declarative sentences, the controversy concerning presuppositions can be briefly summarized in the following way. There are declarative sentences which cause difficulties when we try to specify their truth conditions
