Ghosts in the machine?

Inna Semetsky

pp. 301-311

Peirce asked, "what must be the characters of all signs used by a 'scientific" intelligence, that is to say, by an intelligence capable of learning by experience" (CP 2.227; Peirce's italics). This question demands an answer. These symbolic characters are represented by Tarot images, each one telling us a story of this or that aspect of human experiences, from which we can and should learn. Scientific intelligence, in Peirce's conception, is informed by semiotics as the ">science of signs and is inseparable from experience, in fact determined by it.
