Psychic activity and the brain

T. R. Payne

pp. 153-165

Having dealt with the psychic in its relationship to the external material world, it only remains to discuss briefly the second question posed at the end of Chapter IV: that of the relationship of the psychic to the brain. The second aspect of the relationship of the psychic to the material world, i.e., to the inner matter of the brain, is called by Rubinštejn, the "ontological" or "natural-science" aspect.1 In relation to the brain the psychic appears as a function of that organ or as higher nervous activity.
