Heinrich Hertz's picture-conception of theories

its elaboration by Hilbert, Weyl, and Ramsey

Ulrich Majer

pp. 225-242

What we here indicate as having been accomplished by the experiments is accomplished independently of the correctness of particular theories. The meaning [Bedeutung] of the experiments is nevertheless to be sought in their connection between the experiments with the theory [in ihrem Zusammenhang mit der Theorie] in connection with which they were really undertaken.
