A short secular and religious history of ihievbe town

SimonMary Asese A. Aihiokhai

pp. 13-28

By exploring the history of the founding of Ihievbe town, one begins to observe a heightened cultural memory of the relevance of hospitality and friendship as tools for building healthy communities. Openness to strangers and celebrations of the cult of friendship are noticeable markers of the town's sociocultural worldview. Even the strategic embrace of Christianity as means to counter the disruptive demands of Islam during the early part of the twentieth-century points to the town's pragmatic approach to religion.
